DUNKIRK – The investigation continues into a small plane crash that happened Thursday morning in Durnkirk.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place around 11 a.m. near the Dunkirk Airport. Investigators say the pilot – 66 year-old Francis Emmerling of West Seneca –appeared to be having trouble during takeoff.
The single engine plane then went down in a wooded area near Waite and Center roads.
Emmerling suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to ECMC for treatment. It’s not known why the plan went down and the FAA is continuing the investigation.
