JAMESTOWN – Petitions for the Jamestown Board of Education Election on May 19, 2015 will be available beginning on Monday, March 30 in the Superintendent’s Office, Jamestown City School District, 197 Martin Road, Jamestown, New York.
There will be two board seats on this year’s ballot, each for a three-year term, beginning July 1. Those two seats are currently held by board members Laurel Lucas and Dan Johnson.
Any individual interested in becoming a school board member candidate must submit a completed petition containing the names of 100 or more qualified voters within the school district. These petitions must be received in the Superintendent’s Office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29.
To qualify as a candidate, a person must be a citizen of the United States and a registered voter of the Jamestown City School District who has resided in the district for at least one (1) year prior to the date of the election held on May 19. All qualified voters residing in the City of Jamestown who are registered voters and still reside in the same location, or all qualified voters residing outside the City of Jamestown but within the confines of school districts formerly known as Kiantone no. 3 and Busti no. 7 and who still reside at the same address are entitled to vote at the annual school election.
If a person is not registered to vote, Jamestown Public School’s registration day will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Administration Building, 197 Martin Road, Jamestown, New York. Non-registered voters should present themselves, in person, before the JPS District Clerk with proof of identity and proof of address on May 1st in order to be entitled to vote in on May 19, 2015.
Applications are also available for Absentee Voting. The application forms and instructions may be obtained in the Superintendent’s Office. Any questions about the Board of Education petition process, voter registration or absentee voting applications can be directed to 483-4420.
