MAYVILLE -For the first time in more than a decade there’s a new person at the helm of the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.
Patrick Swanson of Fredonia became Chautauqua County’s Acting District Attorney, replacing David Foley, who resigned to take his new position as County Court Judge. Foley had served as County DA since 2005.
In a prepared statement, Swanson said he is proud to have been chosen by Foley to fill his position for the interim.
Barring a gubernatorial appointment, Swanson will serve as Acting District Attorney until November, when voters will elect a District Attorney to a full four-year term.
Swanson is the son of Mel and Mary Swanson of Sherman and is a graduate of Wake Forest University, and later the University of Memphis Law School.
Most recently he’s served as assistant DA, prosecuting felony cases out of the north county.
The appointment of Swanson comes as a bit of a surprise to some. It was reported last November that assistant DA John Zuroski would be be tapped as the interim DA. However, Zuroski had reportedly decided to decline the offer, paving the way for Swanson to be appointed instead.

I am doing a survey of all District Attorneys across the country and the party affiliation is missing for your current District Attorney Patrick Swanson in Chautauqua County. I would greatly appreciate it if you could email that information to me. Thanks.
