One Person Dies in Early Morning Jeep-Semi Accident in Ellington

July 15, 2019 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

ELLINGTON – One person died early Friday morning after the vehicle he was driving crashed into an oncoming semi truck in the Town of Ellington.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Ramon Spunaugle of Conewango Valley died at the scene as a result of the collision on Route 83, just north of Conewango Valley at around 1:30 a.m.

The driver of the tanker truck, identified as Steven Warner, said he was driving north on Route 83 when an oncoming Jeep – driving by Spunaugle – drifted across the center lane markings and into the path of his truck.

The Chautauqua County HazMat team and the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene to assist with the cleanup and a portion of Route 83 was closed Friday as a result of the crash.
