JAMESTOWN – Another downtown building will likely see an emergency demolition in the coming days.
City officials put up barricades on Thursday afternoon around the vacant building – known as the Murray Building – at 34 N. Main St. after a portion of the facade started showing signs of stress.
City Development Director Vince DeJoy told WRFA Friday morning that the building will likely have to undergo emergency demolition. He said because of its proximity to two adjacent buildings, the demolition will have to be done by hand, rather than through the use of heavy equipment.
The building directly to the south is the historic Arcade Building, which is also a vacant building that city officials are also monitoring.
It was the third vacant building in downtown Jamestown since October to undergo structural problems. The other two were located at 10-12 E. Second St and 103.5 W. Third St.
