JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Prendergast Library will not hold its big annual book sale this year, but donations are still welcome and customers are encouraged to shop at a daily book sale that began last fall.
The traditional sale took place the second weekend of June, but work is scheduled to begin in June on a Public Library Construction Grant project to expand handicapped accessibility throughout the building. As a result, officials say the annual sale will not be taking place.
Library Director Tina Scott says that public response has been very positive since the daily book sale started last October and the library is encouraging those interested in buying used books to stop by the library on a regular basis to see what the daily sale has to offer.
Donations continue to be accepted throughout the year, and sale proceeds are still used for new library materials and services.
The library’s Board of Trustees will continue to monitor the success of the daily book sale and evaluate whether to return to an annual sale in 2015.

This is very disappointing news. Whereas there may be increased traffic through the library with the ongoing sale, the annual sale provided an opportunity for my family to gather all the reading material it would need for the summer months. I understand about the construction. The downtown site was ideal last year and would encourage the library to use it again next year.
Every year our family and friends would drive over from Erie to attend this event. Not only did we enjoy helping the library with its fundraiser, we also provided income for your community.
Please have the sale next year. I believe you have vastly underrated how your donated book sale had become a must attend event for book lovers in the region.
