New census results show New York State lost thousands of residents over the last year.
According to the census New York had a net loss of 48,510 residents, the most of any state, from July 2017 to 2018.
Despite the drop, New York remained the fourth most populous state in the country.
Illinois lost the second-most residents with more than 45,000 people leaving that state; by percentage that was worse than New York. In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Puerto also saw its population drop by 129,848, a whopping 3.9 percent decrease.
Nevada and Idaho were among the fastest growing states, according to the census.
