JAMESTOWN – Firefighters in southern Chautauqua County have a new building to help with their training.
On Thursday city and county officials gathered at the Raymond C. Taylor Fire Training Center on Harrison Street to mark the completion of the new burn building, dedicated to Frank Stefanelli, a former chief of the Jamestown Fire Department and certified New York state fire instructor.
According to the Post-Journal, the new building is replacing the former burn building built help firefighters train for responding to fires in multi-story structures.
Funding for the burn building comes from the county, with the legislature recently allocating funds for its construction.
Chief Stefanelli was a member of the Jamestown Fire Department from 1960 to 1980, the last decade of which he served as fire chief. He was a state fire instructor from 1968 to 1975 and the deputy state fire administrator for five years in the early ’90s.
