BUFFALO – Warm temperatures along with rain has resulted in a flood watch for much of Western New York, including low lying areas of Chautauqua County.
According to the National Weather Service, the flood watch will be in effect from early this evening until Friday night. A combination of warm weather and rain have the potential of creating ice jams on various creeks in streams, causing them to over flow and flood low lying areas.
Areas that will most be affected include Cattaraugus and Silver Creeks in northern Chautauqua County, although other areas will also see an impact, including areas along Cassadaga Creek from the town of Ellicott and the town of Stockton and also the Conewango in the towns of Poland and and Carrol.
County emergency management crews and the Red Cross have already met to prepare for flooding and how to best deal with it. They are urging motorists to avoid any flooded roadways and seek an alternate route.
