LAKEWOOD – The local democratic candidate for the 150th State Assembly is taking a stand against full health-care insurance benefits for part-time state lawmakers. Dr. Rudy Mueller (D-Lakewood) is calling for the elimination of taxpayer-funded health insurance benefits for part-time state legislature members.
Mueller – who is running against incumbent Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R-Chautauqua) in the November general election – says the current system isn’t fair to taxpayers, considering millions of people in the state have no insurance. He said that while current lawmakers are unable to find a solution to provide quality, affordable health insurance for all hard working state residents, they continue to support laws that provide comprehensive, affordable health insurance benefits for themselves and their families, which is paid for mostly by taxpayers.
Mueller said if he is elected to the state Assembly, he will not accept taxpayer funded health insurance benefits and will introduce legislation in the Assembly to eliminate this taxpayer funded benefit for all elected NYS Legislators.
