LAKEWOOD – A former Chautauqua County Legislator is officially announcing his intention to run for Assemblyman in New York’s 150th District. Dr. Rudy Mueller (D-Lakewood), local physician and former Minority Leader of the Chautauqua County Legislature, made his formal announcement over the weekend via a media release.
In making his announcement, Mueller said he believe it vital for people of Chautauqua County to receive intelligent, competent and farsighted representation. He said that if elected, he will bring independent thinking and a positive attitude to Albany and work on attracting new businesses and jobs to the County. Mueller will be running on the democratic ticket and has already received the endorsement of retired assemblyman Bill Parment.
In his release, Mueller also said that while the county may have major problems, he would never label the County, ‘The welfare capital of the nation.” That designation was given to the county by current assemblyman Andrew Goodell (R-Jamestown) in April after it was learned the county had a low participation rate in the Welfare-to-Work program. Mueller said he is offended by Goodell’s misrepresentation of the County. While there has been no official announcement, it is believed that Goodell will run for re-election in November.
Mueller is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and received his M.D. from Ohio State University. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine from Northwestern University in 1985. In Addition to his medical work, Mueller served on the Chautauqua County legislature until the end of last year, opting not to run for re-election. He is married to Dr. Diane Mueller and together they have five children.
