JAMESTOWN – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) will be in Jamestown this afternoon to speak at a public briefing on the New York Free File program and urge eligible taxpayers to use the program to e-file their federal and state income taxes for free.
The briefing will be held at the Jamestown Business College at 1 p.m. The briefing is open to the public and an opportunity for individuals to meet with Rep. Reed.
The New York Free File program is a partnership between the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and several leading tax software companies to provide eligible taxpayers the free use of name brand tax software. The program is modeled after the IRS Free File program. In general, taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $57,000 or less in 2012 – 70 percent of all taxpayers – are eligible for Free File.
Following the briefing, the Computer & Communications Industry Association will hold a Free File Training workshop open to the public.
