MAYVILLE – An unidentified woman is still in an Erie hospital being treated for a serious head injury after she was involved in an auto accident while riding horse in the town of Chautauqua earlier this week.
According to New York State Police, the woman was riding the horse in the middle of Route 430 around 9:30 Monday night when the accident occurred. Investigators say a truck driving eastbound struck the horse, throwing the woman to the ground. A second vehicle was also unable to avoid hitting the animal. The rider of the horse suffered a fractured skull and was flown from the scene to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, where she has since been placed a medically induced coma. The horse died at the scene.
Police were not able to determine why the woman was riding the horse in the middle of the road. No charges were filed in the incident.
