MORNING NEWS: Woman Escapes Harm in Charlotte House Fire

November 21, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

CHARLOTTE – A family in the Town of Charlotte has much to be thankful today after fire broke out in their home yesterday morning. According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, a house fire was reported just before 7 a.m. Tuesday morning at the residence of Kevin and Beth Oakes on Hooker Rd. The fire damage was limited to a second floor bedroom and roof of the residence. However, the Oakes’ daughter was sleeping in another 2nd floor bedroom at the time, but she was able to get up and make her way to safety thanks to several smoke detectors in the home.

After an investigation, the fire has been ruled accidental, due to combustibles being too close to the chimney. The Sinclairville Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by Cassadaga, Cherry Creek, Ellington, Ellery Center, Falconer, Gerry, Lily Dale and Stockton fire departments.
