The winter weather is creating some hazardous driving conditions in the area. Yesterday, a combination of high wind and blowing snow caused a tractor trailer to jack knife on Route 60 in the town of Gerry. Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies say the accident took place just after 10:30 in the morning. As a result of the accident, a portion of Route 60 was reduced to single lane for approx. 2 hours. No charges were filed against the driver.
In a second accident, a snow plow in the town of Ellicott went off the road. The accident, which took place on Horton Rd., was reportedly the result of the snowplow operator taking evasive action, out of fear of hitting an oncoming vehicle. No injuries were reported and other details were provided in the incident.
And the Chautauqua County offices were closed an hour earlier Thursday due to the weather.
