JAMESTOWN – Volunteers and staff members of the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County are ready to raise funding for the 2012 Campaign. More than 40 people were at the Girl Scouts Service Center yesterday afternoon to help kick off the United Way’s 2012 campaign with an Olympic theme, complete with candle-lighting to represent the Olympic torch.
This year’s goal is set at $1,310,000, with more than $220,000 – or 16 percent – already being raised through the pacesetters and circle of friends contributions.
United Way Executive Director Tory Irgang says this year’s goal is $10,000 more than last year, and is asking everyone in the community to try to find a way to contribute, even if it just amounts to a couple of dollars each week.
The United Way partners with 19 agencies in the area to provide service, and helps more than 31,000 people each year. The 2012 United Way Campaign will be continuing through January. For more information, call 483-1561 or visit uwayscc.org.
