MAYVILLE – The pre-trial hearing for the man allegedly involved in the shooting death of the Clymer school superintendent has wrapped up this week in Mayville. The hearings are connected to the upcoming trial of Anthony R. Taglianetti II, who faces a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Keith Reed, Jr.
According to the Jamestown Post-Journal, a senior investigator with the District Attorney’s Office testified on Wednesday that Taglianetti’s wife called police in the days after Reed’s body was discovered Sept. 24 outside his residence. The wife, Mary Taglianetti, said her husband discovered an affair between her and Reed that occurred “years earlier.” It’s believed that Taglianetti found recent emails between the two and left the evening of Sept. 20 to confront Reed. Police believe Reed was killed the following evening, on Sept. 21.
The article also says that phone records obtained through a search warrant showed Taglianetti’s cellphone was in Chautauqua County at the time of the homicide. Email accounts and computers belonging to the Taglianetti’s were analyzed in Buffalo.
Judge John T. Ward presided over the hearings, and gave Tagliantetti’s attorney, public defender Ned Barone, two weeks to file motions regarding evidence that was presented this week. The trial is set to begin on Sept. 17.
