MAYVILLE – The effort to prosecute a Virginia man for allegedly killing the superintendent of Clymer Central School last year is moving forward.
The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting today that the pretrial hearings in the case against Anthony R. Taglianetti II is now underway in Mayville. On Tuesday, investigators and a crime scene specialist gave their testimony in the case.
Chautauqua County Public Defender Ned Barone is serving as Taglianetti’s attorney. According to the Post-Journal, Barone said his office has “taken issues” with the case, particularly with search warrants issued and executed in Virginia where Taglianetti was discovered days after Reed was found shot to death. The pretrial hearing regarding evidence will resume today county court.
Taglianetti is facing a charge of second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing Keith Reed Jr. outside of his home in Clymer the evening of Sept. 21, 2012. On Sept. 27, Taglianetti was named as a suspect in the case and was apprehended by police in Virginia less than two days later. He pleaded innocent in December after his extradition.
The trial is expected to begin in September. If convicted of 2nd degree murder, Taglianetti faces 25 years to life in prison.
