An Erie, Pa., man is in police custody this morning after leading police on a high sped chase Tuesday afternoon through the town North Harmony. New York State police say 31-year-old Willie Brown was finally captured and brought into custody after the SUV he was driving flipped over.
Officers say the incident occurred after Brown was allegedly spotted speeding on I-86, going nearly 20 miles over the speed limit. As police attempted to pull Brown over, he then reportedly left the interstate and headed east on Route 394. Brown then attempted to elude police, with speeds approaching 100 miles per hour. Brown finally was brought into custody when his SUV veered off the road and rolled onto its side near the Ashville BOCES.
Brown was charged with third-degree fleeing an officer in a vehicle, unlawful possession of marijuana, reckless driving and other speed in zone infractions. He is scheduled to be arraigned in North Harmony Court. The Ashville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
