MAYVILLE – The latest effort to sell the Chautauqua County Home has hit a snag and, as a result, a special meeting of the Chautauqua County legislature scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. In addition, Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards is terminating his agreement with a businessman who had made an offer to buy the home for $16.5 million.
On Tuesday night, County Attorney Steve Abdella sent out an email, notifying the media that the special meeting had been cancelled by Legislature Chairman Jay Gould. In the notification, Abdella also said that Edwards recommended the cancellation of the meeting due to the failure of the prospective purchaser of the County Home to make the required purchase deposit of $1.65 million.
Earlier this month, Edwards announced that Richard Platschek had submitted an offer to buy the county home. Platscheck already owns three other nursing facilities in the Buffalo area. According to Abdella, the County Executive is terminating the agreement with Platschek and will continue efforts to find a buyer for the County Home.
