HANOVER – A new commercial district will soon be cropping up in the North county, thanks in part to the Seneca Nation of Indians. Late last week, Seneca Nation of Indians President Robert Odawi Porter and other officials announced a project to create a 400,000 square foot outlet mall in the town of Hanover.
The estimated $50 million project would be constructed on a 108-acre site owned by the Seneca Gaming Corp. just off of Exit 58 on the I-90 and Routes 5 and 20.
County executive Greg Edwards says the project was two years in the making and will be a significant economic development opportunity for the Seneca Nation, Chautauqua County, and Western New York. If approved and constructed in the next two years, Edwards said the mall would generate millions of dollars in revenue and create 250 jobs during construction and 750 full and part time jobs after its completion.
