Senator Catharine Young has announced that 19 job creation projects in the 57th Senate District will receive critically important state funds through the second round of Regional Economic Development Council awards.
A total of six projects will receive funding in Chautauqua County.
- In Jamestown, JCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Machinists Training Program will receive nearly $100,000 to train 27 unemployed workers as machinists.
- In Dunkirk, the City’s Main Street Program will get $250,000, which will go to help renovate seven buildings in its business district.
- A total of $375,000 will also go to the village of Bemus Point for the design and construction of Village of Streetscape Improvements along Lakeside Drive and Main Street. The project is meant to provide safer access for pedestrians and drivers, support the commercial district, and enable expansion of public events by accommodating seasonal visitors whose business is vital to the local economy.
- The Dunkirk Bio-energy Power Generation Project will also receive $350,000, which will be used to take advantage of the industrial organic waste stream that exists in a small circumference around the facility site to receive and process organic waste for power generation.
- A total of $250,000 in funding will also go to Lopper North America for the Manufacturing of Low Emissions Wood-fired Boilers.
- The Westfield Main Street Project will get $150,000, which will be used in a partnership with Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. to renovate eight buildings in the Village of Westfield.
Young said the news is tremendous because these projects will strengthen the economy and help create and retain jobs. Statewide, a total of $738 million was awarded for 725 economic development projects in every region of New York State.
