Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) has been given his assignments for the houses’ Ways and Means committee for the new congress. According to a media release, Reed will take part in a number of tax reform working groups involving Energy; Manufacturing; Education and Family Benefits; and Real Estate.
Reed said he will use his time in those groups to work toward finding ways to simplify the country’s complicated tax code. According to Reed, American taxpayers are spending a collective 6.1 billion hours each year trying to comply with the county’s 70,000-page tax code. Reed says by simplifying the code, small businesses will be able to focus more on creating jobs and ensuring that we stay competitive in this global economy.
There are a total of 11 working groups in the Ways and Means committee. They are responsible for reviewing current law and compiling feedback from stakeholders, academics and think tanks, practitioners, the general public and fellow group members.
