It’s official – Chautauqua County now has a new representative in Washington. Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) was sworn into the 113th Congress on Thursday by House Speaker John Boehner. Reed now begins a two-year term representing New York’s newly-drawn 23rd Congressional District – which covers nearly a dozen counties, including Chautauqua County.
Reed said in a prepared statement that he will continue to work toward tackling unsustainable debt and get the country’s financial priorities straight so that he can help bring jobs to the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region.
This is will be Congressman Reed’s second full-term in office. In addition to Chautauqua County, New York’s newly-drawn 23rd district also includes Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates counties.
