JAMESTOWN – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) says he received plenty of useful information that he can use to help the manufacturing sector in the Southern Tier and Across the United States, thanks to a recent meeting in Jamestown. Reed was in town last Thursday to attend a workshop with members of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier.
During a conference call with local media on Monday morning, Reed told WRFA that he learned a couple of things during the meeting from local businesses that he will be reporting back to his colleagues in Washington.
“One of the best ideas that came out of the meeting was seeing first hand what they are doing in regards to workforce development,” Reed said. “There is a true partnership that they’re leading in the district that I hope to duplicate across the country in regards to teaming up manufacturers with community colleges, such as Jamestown Community College for example, and developing those skill sets that are necessary for manufacturers in order to take advantage of this manufacturing renaissance that I referred to.”
During Monday’s conference call, Reed again pushed for cheaper energy via natural gas, while also calling for a reduction in corporate tax rates – saying that those two things would be key to help continue a manufacturing renaissance in the United States. The Corning Republican is co-chair of a bipartisan manufacturing caucus in Congress.
