The image is used by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy to show the need to cut the nutrients to the lake which fuels plant and algae growth. MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County and the Chautauqua Lake Management Commission (CLMC) have taken important steps towards the development of the required in-lake management plan to address nuisance aquatic plants. After assembling funding and developing a Scope of Work, the Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development(CCPED), the CLMC and a broad stakeholder group agreed to hire

of Saranac Lake, a firm with extensive expertise in aquatic plant management, to develop the plan.

Cedar Eden will develop a comprehensive and integrated submerged aquatic vegetation management plan (SAVMP) that will expand upon the techniques to manage the nuisance aquatic vegetation that impairs recreational, environmental, and economic resources in Chautauqua Lake. Once completed, the Plan will consider the location and type of man’s uses, areas of excessive weed growth, and where the conflicts between man’s uses and the weeds occur.

The next step in the process is for the community input protion. A Public meeting is being held tonight from 6:30 – 8:30 at the Ashville Fire hall (near Stow Senior Center). The Project Team will be presenting the Scope of Work and other details regarding the project, and will provide am opportunity for the public to provide input and ask questions.
Details regarding the Cedar Eden proposal for the SAVMP may be accessed at www.planningchautauqua.com.
