UPDATE (9:30 a.m.): Chautauqua County District Attorney, David W. Foley has announced that the Preliminary Hearing in the Town of Carroll for the four defendants arrested in the double homicide that is scheduled for 10 A.M. this morning has been cancelled. There will be proceedings in Chautauqua County Court regarding the four defendants this Friday, April 26, 2013 beginning at 9:30 A.M.
FREWSBURG – The preliminary hearing for the four men accused of killing two Frewsburg area residents is scheduled for this morning in Carroll town court. The Carroll town clerk says the preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. before town justice Willard Cass.
The four co-defendants in the case – 34 year-old Davide Coggins, 21 year-old Joshua McCormick, 18 year-old Ricky Knickerbocker and 18 year-old Steven Todd – have each been charged with two counts of second degree murder following an investigation into the deaths of 66 year old Gordon Skinner and 59 year old Joyce Skinner. All four men are from the Elmira, N.Y. area.
The Skinners were found dead inside their Wheeler Hill Rd. residence the morning of April 17 by emergency service workers responding to a fire.
Following an investigation, Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace and District Attorney David Foley accuse the four men of driving to the area from Elmira and allegedly killing the couple at their residence during a home invasion. Authorities would not offer any details on a possible motive, nor would they provide details on how the couple was killed. Sheriff Gerace would only say it was not a random home invasion and no fire arms were used in the incident.
During today’s court proceedings, Justice Case will hear preliminary details of the case and then set bail for each co-defendant. The court also has an option of not setting any bail.
Coggins was assigned to the Chautauqua County Public Defender’s Office. Knickerbocker, Todd and McCormick were each assigned to private attorneys from Chautauqua County. The four men are currently being held in the Chautauqua County Jail.
