JAMESTOWN – One of the top names in comedy will be in Jamestown tonight as part of the 2012 Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy. Comedian Paula Poundstone is a regular panelist on NPR’S hit weekly news quiz show, “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me” and has been named one of Comedy Central’s 100 Greatest Comics of All Time. Lucy-Desi Center Executive Director Journey Gunderson says this is the second year in a row the critically acclaimed comedienne will perform at the Festival.
“She was the one that – pretty much, as soon as her show ended on Saturday night of last year’s festival – we said, ‘We would like you back.’ And that’s really unusual for comedy. There’s not too many comedians that I would go after and book twice in a row, except for Paula Poundstone,” Gunderson told WRFA. “If that was a show you missed last year, you have to see it this year. She is so witty and off the cuff, that her show is never the same twice. She interacts a lot with the audience, she has an affinity for Jamestown, she’s a Lucy fan and we really like Paula Poundstone.”

Poundstone is also the first woman to receive the Cable ACE for Best Standup Comedy Special. Her show begins at 8 tonight in the Reg Lenna Civic Center, with doors opening at 7:30. Tickets are still available. For ticket information, go online to www.lucycomedyfest.com.
Other events planned for today include a book signing by Gregg Oppenheimer, producer of the “I Love Lucy” DVDs and son of I Love Lucy creator-producer-head writer Jess Oppenheimer. Gregg will be signing copies of the book he co-authored with his dad: “Laughs, Luck…and Lucy: How I Came to Create the Most Popular Sitcom of All Time.”
Various other activities are planned as well with a complete schedule available online at the festival’s website.
