JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Police are now saying that arson was the cause of a fire that destroyed a medical building on the city’s southside early Monday morning.
Jamestown Police Capt. Robert Samuelson released an update on the fire Tuesday morning, saying investigators from the city fire department have determined that the blaze was intentionally set. Police are still looking into a possible motive for the incident.
In addition, he said that the person or persons involved with setting the fire might have been hurt in the process and sought medical attention. Police have notified hospitals throughout the region but in addition, they are asking the public to keep an eye out for anyone who may have recently received burns on his or her hands.
City firefighters were alerted to the fire at 23 Ivy St. near the intersection with Foote and Cole Aveneues around 2:30 a.m. The spent much of the morning preventing the fire from spreading but were unable to save the building, which was a total loss. No injuries were reported in the incident. The medical complex housed Krempa Medical Associates, Laser Center of Chautauqua and a podiatrist office.
Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call Jamestown police at 483-7531 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 483-8477.
