KIANTONE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says a faulty power strip is the cause of a fire that led to the death of a family pet on Monday Morning in the town of Kiantone.
Investigators say the fire took place at 1488 Warren-Jamestown Blvd. just before 9:30 a.m. and started in the basement of the residence. One person was home at the time sleeping but was woken up by a smoke detector. She was able to get out of the home safely. However, a dog was also in the home at the time and died as a result of the fire.
The Kiantone Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Busti, Falconer, Frewsburg, Kennedy, Lakewood and Panama Fire Departments.
The public is reminded, with this past weekend being daylight saving time, to change the batteries in their smoke detectors.
