MAYVILLE – The 2012 election may not take place until tomorrow, but we already know how the presidential election would turn out – if more than 5,000 students from throughout Chautauqua County had their say.
A total of 5,686 students from twelve school districts and one home school group participated in the Chautauqua County Board of Elections 2012 Mock Presidential Elections. President Barack Obama – a democrat – garnered 51 percent of the vote over Republican Mitt Romney, who received 42 percent of the total votes cast.
The mock election was done in partnership with the non-partisan Chautauqua County League of Women Voters and the Lakewood Rotary club. The Board of Elections is required by state law to do voter out reach programs and the school visitation for mock presidential voting is part of the county’s compliance.
