JAMESTOWN – The man challenging Republican Andy Goodell for the county’s state assembly seat has received the endorsement of the New York State United Teachers Union. Dr. Rudy Mueller announced the backing of the state’s largest teachers union in a media release sent out on Monday. In making their endorsement for Mueller, NYSUT President Richard Iannuzzi the union has been diligent in aligning its endorsements with those candidates whose positions are worthy of supporting, and Mueller’s stance on issues important to NYSUT members have earned him the union’s endorsement.
NYSUT represents more than 600,000 teachers and other school-related professionals; academic and professional faculty at SUNY, CUNY, and the state’s community colleges; retirees; and healthcare and other professionals in public and private employment.
Mueller is challenging Goodell for the 150 Assembly District seat in the November General Election. A meet-the-candidates debate between the two candidates is set to take place on the evening Oct. 22 at the Prendergast Library, sponsored by the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters.
