JAMESTOWN – During Monday night’s Jamestown City Council meeting, the council approved the appointment of Marie Carrubba, a Democrat, as the person who will replace Vince DeJoy’s Ward IV council seat. By law, the mayor has to appoint a resident who lives in the ward and who is of the same political party as the person he or she is replacing. Mayor Sam Teresi appointed Carrubba to the position, saying she’ll bring a wealth of experience to the council.
“She’s got great experience in this community serving on the boards of directors of wonderful organizations and actually chairing those boards, such as The Resource Center and Chautauqua Opportunities,” Teresi said. “She also served as the chair of the reapportionment commission for the city in 2012 and brings a wealth of background and experience to the city council. I’m looking forward to her coming on board next week.”
Carrubba is a resident of Widrig Ave. in the city. She has served as the executive director of Southwestern Independent Living Center in Jamestown since 1984.
In addition to Carrubba’s appointment, city council woman Maria Jones (D-Ward V) was appointed to the Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors. She is replacing the seat that is vacated following DeJoy’s resignation from the city council. By Law, two city council members have to sit on the board – one being the city council president and the other being a council member appointed by the mayor.
Also, City councilman Tony Dolce (R-Ward II) was appointed as the council’s finance committee chairman, a title previously held by DeJoy. As finance committee chair, Dolce will also sit on the board for the Jamestown Local Development Corporation.
