JAMESTOWN – It’s National Night Out tonight in Jamestown, with several community organizations planning various events and activities. Friends of Lillian Dickson Park on Falconer St. will be having a neighborhood party with a variety of activities planned. The evening will feature food, beverages, and musical entertainment. Anyone planning to attend is also encouraged to bring a dish to pass.
Organizers of the recently created Neighborhood Watch group will also be on hand seeking other residents who would like to be involved in the group. Members of the Jamestown Fire and Police Departments will also be in attendance. Activities will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the park and everyone is invited.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, the 29th Annual National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and cosponsored locally by the Jamestown Neighborhood Watch Coalition, and the Jamestown Police and Fire Departments. The event involves 15,000 communities from throughout the United States. The goal is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anticrime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit.
Other community events planned in Jamestown include one at 25 Pearl St., one at East Cowden Pl. at Meyer, 94 Forest Ave., and 42 W. 13th St.
