MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County will continue its agreement with New York State to provide public transportation for county residents. The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting this morning that residents who rely on CARTS as a mode of transportation won’t see the service removed by lawmakers.
On Tuesday, the legislature’s Public Facilities Committee met and approved resolution that will let the county executive sign off on a six-year agreements to bring in grant money from New York State which will be used as operating assistance for CARTS. A resolution to continue the agreements was passed by the Public Facilities Committee on Tuesday. The CARTS public transportation system has routes throughout the county, and residents can also call them for a specific pick-up. The contract extension will go before all county lawmakers when the legislature meets Nov. 28 for its monthly voting session.
Meanwhile, the legislature’s committee meetings continue today in Mayville. The Public Safety Committee will meet at 4 p.m. among the items to be discussed is a resolution for Funding the Local Share of Police Consolidation Study with City of Jamestown. The amount is $8,400 and will be used to match the $400,000 grant that was recently awarded to the city of Jamestown to initiate the study, which will be done by the Center for Governmental Research, Inc.
