MAYVILLE – One of the jurors involved in the Nushawn Williams Civil Confinement Trial has been excused because of a medical condition. That from YNN News, which says the loss of the juror leaves just two alternates remaining. However, William’s attorney, John Nuchereno, said he does think the loss will have an impact on the trial.
On Tuesday, the state Attorney General’s Office called a handful of witnesses to the stand. Among those testifying was a corrections officer and an inmate, who said they heard that Williams plans to repeat his behavior if he’s released.
In 1999 Williams pleaded guilty in Chautauqua County Court to rape and reckless endangerment. He served a maximum sentence of 12 years, but is still being held under the state’s civil confinement law. The closed-door civil trial is taking place in Chautauqua County Court. It is expected to continue on into next week.
