JAMESTOWN – Just three members of the public – all of whom were representing the press – attended Tuesday night’s public hearing on the 2013-2014 Jamestown School Budget at Percell Middle School.
The $75,370,000 spending plan calls for no increase to the tax levy, nor does it include any layoffs of teachers. In addition to discussing the 2013-2014 spending plan, the public hearing also covered details on an upcoming referendum for the district to lease-to-own several new student transportation vehicles, at a cost not to exceed $795,000.
Residents will also vote for two school board seats. Up for re-election are School Board President Joe DiMaio and current board member Patrick Slagle. In addition, Jamestown Resident Todd Rushforth is also running for one of the two seats.
The budget vote, referendum and school board election will be on May 21 from noon to 9 p.m. Voting will take place at Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson schools.
