JAMESTOWN – It was a bittersweat board meeting last night for the Jamestown Board of Education.
Tuesday’s school board meeting was the final board meeting for outgoing superintendent Deke Kathman, who will be retiring at the end of this month. In addition to the board recognizing Kathman for his years of service to the school district, which incluces six years as superintendent, it was also announced that the school district’s Central Administration Offices honor would be named in his honor. The Jamestown school board also Board unveiled a portrait of Kathman, which will hang in the JPS Board Room.
Jamestown School Board president Joe DiMaio said that during Kathman’s time with the school, all of his decisions were always based on wanting Jamestown students to be successful.
Kathman will retire on July 31st after 26 years with the Jamestown Public Schools. Prior to serving as Superintendent, he also served as Love Elementary School principal (1987-1990); Director of Elementary Education (1990-2003): and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.
The new superintendent will be Timothy Mains, who comes to Jamestown from the Rochester School District and who was introduced to the district in June.
