JAMESTOWN – The effort to hire a new superintendent for Jamestown Public Schools is moving forward.
On Tuesday night, the school board approved the appointment of more than 50 individuals from the school and the community to serve on six different committees. Jamestown School Board President Joe DiMaio says the school used the assistance of consultant Dr. David O’Rourke – superintendent of Erie 2 – Chautauqua Cattaraugus BOCES – to help select the committee members.
The six different committees will be made up of people from the Community – including parents and representatives from organizations that work closely with the school; the Faculty; Support Staff; Principals and Coordinators; Central Office Administrators; and members of the student body. The committees will begin interviewing potential candidates for the position in May.
DiMaio said that the school board had initially receive interest in the position from 19 different people and during an executive session on Monday night the board reduced the field to a lower number of candidates, although he would not say the specific number.
In January, Current Superintendent Daniel “Deke” Kathman announced he would be retiring at the end of this school year. The school board is hoping to find his replacement by June or July.
