JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown School board will be holding a meeting tonight and officials are expected to finalize the districts 2013-2014 spending plan.
Earlier this month, Superintendent Daniel “Deke” Kathman and his staff went over the preliminary numbers of the $75.3 million budget with the school board, calling it a difficult budget because state funding for building aid wasn’t going to come in nearly as much as projected. In addition, the state did not provide a significant boost in funding for the district when it finalized its spending plan at the end of March.
After considering various options, the administration and school board were able to find a way to craft a budget that not only calls for no tax increases, but also calls for no layoffs of current positions in the district. During tonight’s meeting, the board will finalize and act on the budget. Tonight’s meeting begins at 7:45 p.m. in the school administration building.
A public hearing on the spending plan will be May 14 at Persell School and the budget vote will be May 21.
