JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown city council will meet for the final time in 2012 tonight when it holds its monthly voting session in City Hall.
Lawmakers have a light agenda, with the majority of the resolutions being routine in nature. Among the items to be acted on is a resolution calling for the refinancing of $6.5 million in bonds the city has borrowed in the past. By refinancing those bonds, Jamestown will see a savings of nearly $600,000 over the reaming life of those loans – which would translate to about $35,000 each year for the next 18 years.
As reported last week by WRFA, the council will also act on approving the purchase of five new vehicles for the Department of Public Works. Two of the vehicles will be acquired through the $1,000,000 the council approved last month. They are a new backhoe and a lawn mower for the parks department. Three new trucks will also be purchased. One will be purchased through money that was budgeted for 2012. The final two will be acquired through a trade-in. All three trucks will be bought at Ed Shults Ford in Jamestown.
Tonight’s voting session begins at 7:30 p.m. A work session is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Both are open to the public.
