JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown City Council will begin the process of reviewing and amending the 2013 city budget when it meets tonight in city hall. Council members will begin by reviewing individual department budgets during committee meetings, with budget deliberations starting at 6:30 p.m. The council will then hold a work session with all members present, starting at 7:30 p.m. During the work session, the council will meet with the Department of Public Works and Parks Department officials and review those two respective budgets.
Last Tuesday, Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi released his 2013 executive budget proposal. The $33,452,000 proposed budget is up over $390,000 compared to the current 2012 spending plan. It calls for a tax levy increase of $896,000 – which equates to a tax rate increase of 6.44 percent.
Copies of the budget book are available for public review in the mayor’s office, city clerk’s office and at the reference desk of the Prendergast Library. The executive summary of the budget is available online at jamestownny.net.
