WESTFIELD – Several people were taken to the hospital over the weekend following a house fire in Westfield. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says fire crews in Westfield were called to a house fire at 19 Cottage st. at about 6:45 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, crews found a four apartment residence on fire.
Five residents were taken to Westfield Hospital and later released for minor non-life threatening injuries. A sixth resident was taken to ECMC for smoke inhalation.
The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation team was called to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Following an investigation it was determined by Investigators that the fire was caused by combustible material in close proximity to a heat source. Fire crews from six different companies, along with All Star Ambulance, assisted at the scene. The Red Cross was contacted and is assisting all residents.
