Chautauqua County’s representative in the State Assembly has mixed reviews of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2013 state of the state address.
Assemblyman Andy Goodell is voicing support for the governor’s proposal to reform broken systems like workers’ compensation and unemployment, which currently discourage business development in New York State. Goodell also praised the governor’s pledge for “no new taxes” but expressed concerns about some of the more progressive aspects of his agenda, saying he would like to learn more details about them before weighing in any further.
In Wednesday’s state of the state address, Governor Cuomo called for an increase in minimum wage to $8.75 an hour, improving public safety through a seven-point gun regulation agenda, the passage of a Women’s Equality Act, calling for stricter green house gas regulations and decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
