JAMESTOWN – A home at the Chautauqua Institution has been destroyed by fire. The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting this morning that several area fire departments were called to the grounds of Chautauqua yesterday morning shortly before 9:30 a.m. to respond to a blaze at 54 S. Lake Drive. The home was completely engulfed when the first crews arrived on the scene. A second home at 52 S. Lake Drive was also heavily damaged by the fire.
Volunteers from several area fire departments responded to the scene, including Chautauqua, Mayville, Hartfield, Maple Springs, Ashville and Sherman. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Chautauqua County FAST Team and Chautauqua County Fire Police also assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
