ASHVILLE – Poor installation of a stove pipe to a wood burning stove has led to an Ashville home to be completely destroyed by fire. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office is reporting this morning that fire crews from the Ashville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2467 Butts Rd, North Harmony early yesterday afternoon. Upon arrival, the single family residence was found fully involved and eventually destroyed by flames.
The Chautauqua County Fire Invetigation Team was requested to assist in determining the cause of the fire. Upon completion of the investigation, it was discovered that the stove pipe, from a wood burning stove in the basement, was installed too close to combustible material. This was determined to have started the fire. No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
Assisting at the scene were fire crews from Panama, Chautauqua, Bemus Point, Ellery Center Lakewood and Busti Fire Departments.
