MORNING NEWS: Edwards Asks Residents to Sign Petition Supporting NRG PowerUpWNY Plan

October 22, 2012 By WRFA Radio Leave a Comment

Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards is calling on county residents to support the PowerUpWNY campaign to get the NRG plant in Dunkirk back into the power making business

Edwards says participating County Office Buildings will now have hard copies of the NRG petition available for residents to sign.

The PowerUpWNY Coalition launched the petition drive in September to gain support for NRG Energy’s proposed Dunkirk Repowering Project. The project would replace existing coal units with combined cycle gas turbines that would allow the plant to operate solely on natural gas by 2017.

The coalition is working to reach its goal of 3,000 supporters by the end of October.  So far about 800 residents have signed the petition. In an effort to reach more residents, the petition will now be available at six County Offices, including:

Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency
200 Harrison St.
Jamestown, NY 14701

Department of Motor Vehicles
South County Office Building
110 East Fourth St.
Jamestown, NY 14701

Office for the Aging
610 West Third St.
Jamestown, NY 14701

Veterans Service Agency
610 West Third St.
Jamestown, NY 14701

The petition will be available at these locations until October 27th. Residents are encouraged to stop in and sign the petition or visit www.powerupwny.org to sign the petition online.

If you would like to offer the petition at your business, please contact the County Executive’s Office at (716) 753-4211.
