MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edward is laying to rest a rumor regarding one of the County Department of Public Facilities garages being shut down.
In this week’s Monday Morning Memo, Edwards said that recently some misinformation was presented in social media on the closing of the Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities’ Sherman Shop. Edwards said that there are currently three District Supervisor positions in DPF operations, with one for each of the shops in Sheridan, Falconer, and Sherman.
Edwards says that recently the District Supervisor for the Sherman Shop retired. This retirement offered his office the opportunity to review this position to determine the most efficient and effective means to provide support and management of operations.
Edwards says that after being reviewed, it was learned that if the position is eliminated, it would save taxpayers about $100,000 and no one would be laid off. Sherman operations would still continue ensuring county roads are maintained and safe for residents and visitors. He added that the only difference would be that road crews during the construction season would need to report to the Falconer or Sheridan shops before they head out with their teams.
Edwards added that at this moment, no decision has been made, but he will continue to look into the pros and cons of eliminating the position and will continue to keep residents informed. In the meantime, he said the elimination of the position does not correlate with closing down the entire garage in Sherman.
