JAMESTOWN – The former Jamestown Police Department detective accused of allegedly taking pain medication from the city evidence room has been formally charged by the county District Attorney’s office.
In a media release sent out yesterday, District Attorney David Foley said that Eric Corey has been charged with one count of official misconduct – a Class A misdemeanor. Foley also stated that both Jamestown City Court Judges have recused themselves form the case, and an application for removal to another court will be forthcoming.
Earlier this year, Corey resigned from the Jamestown Police Department following an internal investigation that revealed that prescription painkillers had been removed from the police department’s evidence room on several occasions. Corey had been a member of the Jamestown Police Department for more than a decade prior to his resignation.
Official misconduct is a class A misdemeanor and Corey could face up to one year in jail if convicted.
