JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Public Schools will be transitioning this year to the Chautauqua County Board of Elections’ paper ballot optical scan voting system. That’s according to County Election officials, who said that Jamestown joins Bemus Point, Cassadaga Valley, Ripley, Forestville and Panama schools using the county’s optical scan paper ballot voting machine service.
Election commissioner Brian Abram says that the school district clerk will remain the chief election officer for the May 21 school elections, adding that the board of elections job will be to create ballots, program voting machine scanners, hire and train election inspectors, set up the poll sites and to provide professional election assistance.
Extra services that the Board of Elections will be offering includes Spanish language ballots as required by federal law, translator service, ballot marking devices that allow special needs voters to vote independently, without assistance, and the opportunity for battle zone military voters to obtain ballots from the Internet.
The cost of the district going with the board of elections is projected to be $2,241, which is similar to election costs in previous years.
